The Ancient Order of Hibernians is a Catholic, Irish American Fraternal Organization founded in New York City on May 4th, 1836. Division 39, the largest and second oldest division in Pennsylvania and is named in honor of a priest, Monsignor Thomas J. Rilley, who served as our chaplain for over 25 years. Hibernian Hunger Project News
What a sight to see so many Hibernians and their families come out this morning (3/29/08) to participate in the Hibernian Hunger Project. On behalf of Ed Dougherty and Donna Donnelly it was a project well worth being involved in. Yesterday some of the retired guys from 39 set up the tables and the rollers and this morning all divisions from Philadelphia and and a few people came down from Pittsburg and a few from the Pocono area joined us in preparing and freezing 12,000 meals. That is only one of the hunger projects in Philadelphia. We prepared 12,000 hot meals in about 5 hours which will be distributed to the homeless, veterans, shut-ins and anyone who is in need. This is only a drop in the bucket for all the people who go hungry every day. Please get started and help the hungry in your area. It doesnt take much. This is our 9th year in our area and it gets bigger every year.

Saint Brigid of Ireland was a founding patron of the Christian church in Ireland and was one of the first Irish Saints. Legend has it that she wove her first cross from rushes that covered the floor of her home. The rush cross has been the symbol of Saint Brigid ever since.
